Orthotist
Duties and Responsibilities:
Orthotists work with patients that need extra support for
their muscles, spine, or limbs. They design, make, and fit apparatuses
made of plastic, wood, leather, and metal that help stabilize, strengthen or
replace body parts. They also make and fit devices that help to align limbs
that have grown in a crooked manner. They use computers to design these
apparatuses and work very closely with physicians.
Salary:
$25,000 - $40,000
Education:
Students take science, math, and English courses in high
school. Some colleges and universities offer bachelor degrees in orthotic
and prosthetic programs. Anatomy, physics, math, mechanical drawing, and
the use of materials used in the making of devices are some of the programs
offered. One may apply for certification after a year.
I don’t think I would like to be an orthotist, the job seems
too difficult.
