Glenn Cunningham was born in Atlanta, Kansas in 1909. He is considered to be the greatest American miler of all time by many people. He went through a really hard time when is legs were severely burned in a n explosion at his school at age 8. His 13-year-old brother had died in the same fire. Glenn lost all the toes of his left foot and lost all the flesh on his shins and knees. The doctors wanted to amputate his legs, but Glenn's parents wouldn't let them. He was told he would never walk again. Eventually, Glenn learned to walk again through a new therapy. Eventually, he started running and became very good at it. He competed in the summer  Olympics of 1932 and 1936.and won many medals and achievements. He also set the record for fastest mile time at 4:04.4.
